Farewell

It is with much sadness, but also much relief, that I have made the personal decision to shutter Star Trek Futures (STF) for the foreseeable future. I do not come to this choice lightly, as I have spent almost four years emotionally and financially invested in this project. We hired actors (some even still unannounced), built uniforms, sets, 3d assets, written scripts, music, props etc; and all that being said, we’re still no closer to putting out a solid product to the community. This story is still incredibly important to me though. It's a story about a broken society, a forgotten ship, a family forced into dealing with very real, pure, and true human emotions. I firmly believe that this story should be told; but frankly where I find myself in life, I have come to the conclusion that I am not in the position to do it justice.
Sadly, STF and the greater Star Trek community as whole has become a negative force in my life. It has become harder and harder to ignore the bickering, posturing, and divisiveness that is plaguing ST fandom in general. I feel as though the waters of the community have turned toxic, and that, coupled with my focus on furthering my professional career has brought me to this decision. Close friends of mine will know that I am focused on a career transition into working as a Production Sound Mixer. So as much as I love this project, I can’t afford the time, energy, or the financial burden it takes to make this project come to fruition. So instead of stringing you along, I’ve decided that this is the best course of action. Our social media pages and website will remain active but comments and messages will not be responded to.
I would like to take a moment to thank all the people in my life who have supported, encouraged, contributed their efforts into this project. I would also love to give a huge thank you to all of the fans who have written to me which such enthusiasm about the project, and for their overall support. I sincerely hope that someday I will be able to revisit STF farther down the road when I am in a better position to bring this story to life. If you’ve made it this far, I appreciate you taking the time to read this and hope to be able to share some amazing things with you in the future.

Peace and long life…

Sincerely,
Dan Thale

Greetings fans! I wanted to write this post to let you know that we haven't abandoned you, but to also denote a small yet impactful (to some) change in our written description.
As some of you may know we set out to produce a short film at the end of 2014 and obviously this has not happened. This was due to many things, but mostly because I felt it was not the appropriate time. After meetings, returned and unreturned inquires, bouncing ideas around, and revising our script more times than I can personally count, it came down to a point of being confident that our short film could be produced to the standards I have set out for the project. Trying to keep the deadline of the end of 2014 inevitably forced the answer of - No. This does not mean that the project is dead by any means. I have always asserted that this project can only exist under the right circumstances and I will not sacrifice quality to meet a deadline or any other artificial barrier. So rest assured, work on Star Trek Futures will continue even at a snails pace if thats what it takes to complete the project.
Secondly, we have made a small change in the description in our "Story" section of our homepage. To those who wrote us to complain about this specific minor detail, it will be a big change. If you don't know what change was made, then absolutely nothing about our story, characters, setting, etc... has changed. This was a personal decision made by me, the executive producer and not, in any way influenced by CBS/Paramount. Basically it comes down to where I choose  to spend my energy: Ignoring and/or responding to Trek-Trolls or focusing on creating the best science fiction as we can. While I am reticent to point out this change, I have committed to being 100% honest and transparent with you, the fans, about the process and pitfalls of this epic endeavor. Enough said.

Anyway, lets get back to work shall we!

Take care,
Dan Thale

Our Enterprise-C Bridge Design

10/22/2014

We would like to happily present our floorpan for our bridge design. Some is old, some is new but we hope to honor both the "classic" Ent-C as well as the Probert Ambassador. The basic bridge design is constrained by what we saw in Yesterdays Enterprise, however the surrounding spaces come new with the Probert Ambassador class. The vertical space is split between three levels to more firmly separate the higher level officers from the lower ranks. The other prominent feature of our bridge will be a massive, curved view-screen that will dominate the forward portion of the bridge. Keep in mind this isn't a 100% accurate "blue print" style floorplan, but just an illustration of the design theme. Big thanks to Sean Tourangeau for working with us on putting this together. We hope you like it!

We are incredibly pleased to announce that another immensely talented actor has joined the cast of Star Trek Futures. Please join me in welcoming Mike Brayden as Lt Andrew Lowen! Having just won Best Actor for his role in the 48Hr Film Project Best Picture , 'A Good Ol' Chap,' we are really excited to have him as part of the team. Having worked with Mike on a few other projects, we know that he is an exceptionally determined, focused, and skilled actor. His character will be an integral piece of the Crusher's circle of friends aboard the Enterprise-C.

Take care everyone, and we should have more to announce in the coming weeks so stay tuned!

Set construction has begun

Minor update - Work has begun on the flats for our corridor set. They still have A LONG way to go, and I need to make.... oh say 12 more but it's getting there.  The white portions will be covered in white "carbon fiber" vinyl to give a sort of textured look. The black strip will be smoked acrylic to hide computer monitors for LCARS and some LED strips for direction assistance and the Red alert notification. I'm considering doing a small triangular kicker plate so that the wall meets the floor at something other than a 90deg angle. Also, sorry about the piss poor photoshop mockup lol.

STF Uniform Update

2/21/2014

Just a quick update in regards to the STF Command Uniforms. We have delivered materials to our fantastic tailor to begin working on the prototype uniform jacket. We are basing our uniform design on the same pattern as the uniforms seen in TWOK through Generations. However there will be some modifications due to cost, reusability, and esthetics. Notably the main body of the jacket is a dark grey wool gabardine suiting material. No cheap polyester fabrics here. The jacket will also feature a removable rank arm band and the details on the cuffs and edging will be reduced. Also, we will not be using the standard pillowed undershirt. To keep costs down, we will be using the collar from the uniforms seen on the TNG Seasons 3-7 on a false shirt, otherwise known as a "dickie." We'll get our hands on the prototype early next month (March) to get an initial fitting and to work out any other design issues we may find. After that uniform is completed we will use that prototype to design a new jacket that looks great on camera but is not as complex. This again will keep costs down and allow us to outfit the extras with the appropriate uniforms. We're really excited to see this familiar, yet different design on camera. Thanks for reading and your interest!
